Gosh, I hate to disappoint...but I've worked pretty hard NOT to be the little round man with the white beard. Hope that NEVER happens! :D
Randyman, you really do need to go dip your toes in the East Inlet...we always go to Adams Falls and then hike a while on up the inlet. This always involves taking our shoes off and getting IN the inlet, too! The kids love it!
If you turn LEFT instead of right at the west side visitors' center (going up from Grand Lake, into the park), and follow that road around (DON'T SPEED!), you'll come to a little bridge over the Colorado River and a place to park. Stop there and spend some time "on the beach" and wading around in the river. Even in August the water is frigid, and it's great for perspective to think about that creek joining up with other flows to make the Grand Canyon. Not everything is as it seems...
